Archives For self-care

As we speed toward the end of 2016 it is important to remember to make time for self-care and intention setting. Make a list of self-care options. Add self-care to your daily to-do list. Put self-care on the top. Then make a wish list of what you want to feel daily or during experiences you have planned. Focus on the feeling and get specific. The list will help it manifest.

Making a list of what I want is one of my manifestation tricks. When I want to have a magical experience, such as preparing for my trip to California to give clairvoyant readings, I start with a wish list. For the trip earlier this month I made two lists. One was my list of what I could do for self-care while traveling and the other a list of what I wanted to experience on my trip.

After making the self-care list, I put it on a sticky note on the front page of my journal so the list was available to look at often with reminders of what I could do for self-care in-between clairvoyant readings. If you’re not traveling, put it on the fridge.

I’ve learned that the worse time to try to “figure out” what I need is when I’m feeling depleted. If I don’t give it a little advanced intention, I’ll waste downtime on phone apps or the internet, a form of ‘rest’ that doesn’t refuel me.

Similarly, the worst time to figure out what to eat is when I’m really hungry. Getting to the point of hunger means I’m not likely to make good choices. I’ll go for the easiest and least healthy option available. Looking for quick energy rather than nurturing fuel for my body.

One way to keep myself from making poor choices in self-care after a full day of psychic work is to have a list of reminders of what I can do to refuel. It’s like having a meal plan or healthy snacks available when I’m hungry. My list of self-care options while traveling:

  • Journal
  • Walk
  • Community Acupuncture
  • Get a Massage
  • Go to Yoga class
  • Be Creative

I could have added: enjoy live music, spend time with a friend, snuggle with my pup, have fresh flowers in my room, walk on the beach, all soul nurturing experiences I called upon during the trip.

The other list I made several weeks before my trip, was my wish list for manifestation while traveling. I asked the Universe, with clarity, for specific experiences to make the time feel great. I also set an intention for the number of appointments I wanted to fill for the trip.  The list was made before I knew the space where I would be staying, doing readings from or giving a talk in Napa, or what car I would be driving; my car didn’t feel reliable. I had a great space already arranged in San Francisco. My trip wish-list:

  • Dog friendly lodging
  • Clear psychic space to sleep
  • Free/low cost/trade lodging
  • Comfortable reading space (bring altar items, candle, sage)
  • Reliable comfortable car
  • Free space for evening talk to a broader audience than my clients
  • Courage to tell more of my story
  • Energy rejuvenating activities in-between sessions
  • Ample time, energy and self-care

The day before I left, I went car shopping and got an exceptional deal on the car I’d been dreaming about for months but never test driven. I picked it up the next day, swapped out all my stuff from my old car and drove off an hour later, headed to California. Yes, I had made a “mock-up” / wish-list for the car purchase to be easy, a fantastic price and a list of specific features I was looking for on my new car. Got it!

In Napa, I was offered a place to stay with a client who I had never met in-person. She also offered a room in her centrally located home for me to give readings and the talk. Wow! When I arrived, her dogs were the perfect playmates for my dog. The space was energetically clear. She and another client had invited friends to the talk so of the nine people in attendance only two of them had had readings from me before. My hostess even picked up a few appetizers and fresh flowers for the talk. So magical!

Living soulfully requires a certain concentration of energy and presence. To do it well and feel good you need to take extra care of your energy. Making a list works whether for self-care, fulfilling a dream or manifesting magical energy for practical things. It’s your call out to the Universe to be clear on what you need. A mock-up, intention setting or manifestation ritual.  Make a list. It works!

In times of intensity, self-care always seems to fall to the bottom of the list. A simple morning routine of journaling, walking and centering meditation gets overtaken with sleep to make up for the prior days late night. A series of long overly-full days in which everything that was expected of me didn’t get done.  The day starts off without inner-alignment and quickly progresses to the state of too much to do and too little time.

Without filling my physical and spiritual cup I have little to offer in the face of other’s needs.  As I neglect my own needs, saying yes when I should say no, expecting myself to do more than can be done in the time available, I begin to have negative thoughts, resentments of the things that normally bring me fulfillment.

In a moment of self-reflection, I decided to reclaim my commitment to self-care with my own version of Timothy Leary’s famous advice, “Turn on, tune in and drop out.”

  • Turn On my psychic tools to navigate the demanding energies.
  • Tune In to my intuitive guidance.
  • Drop Out by consciously detaching from expectations and demands that don’t serve me.

Even if I don’t have time for the morning routine that sets my energy for the day, I turn on my tools in the midst of my day to create healthy energetic boundaries with demands and put life’s various choices in a healthier balance. Prioritizing my own health and inner-peace, and making time for me.  This means that I notice when other people’s energy is in my space creating expectations that aren’t balanced and consciously see myself move their energy out of my vibrational field.  I also use my tools to mock-up or imagine support and the sense of ease in an experience.  Energetically I “own” my space, acknowledging that others also get to own their space too but not mine.

With my space cleared of energy that’s not mine, I tune in to my truth. Pay attention to what I believe and want. I direct my actions, thoughts and emotions toward creating the experience I want, rather than going along with the fears or designs of others.  Tuning in can help me see whether those I’m interacting with are being honest with me and themselves.  It gives me direction when I’m facing alternatives.  Allowing me to make choices that take me down a path that is aligned with my highest good.

Having used my energy tools to create space and hear my intuitive guidance, I become more neutral to the demands of others, thus I drop out of the prevailing fear that drives the collective of humanity to stress and over-extend, compromising health and inner-peace to survive.  I choose a different truth and find that when I do what I have committed to, in a balanced way, I enjoy it and even succeed in all of the aspects of living.

In every moment, while on a phone call, walking to my car from the store, pumping gas, sitting on a flight or making dinner I can access support simply by intending it.  In the blink of an eye my entire experience shifts when I turn on my psychic tools and see that there is energy in my space which is not mine. Demands, expectations, needs, and deadlines that I feel pressured by.   Some I may have to comply with, some I don’t. When I notice my choice, I give myself some space. I re-gather my energy, tune in to my inner-guidance and have greater access to knowing what I want and need.  It helps to visualize it, see the demand energy move out of my body into a bubble and float to a faraway place.

The final step of drop out is a point of empowerment through neutrality. Letting go of the stress that comes with needing to control the future or comply with others belief systems when they differ from my own. By detaching from the beliefs that allow the demand to control me or harness my energy and direct it toward an agenda, I reclaim my power to create the life I want.
